Torarica’s Celebrity Chef
“Minister Alice Amafo” at the Pier

Torarica organizes every 3 months “Torarica’s Celebrity Chef”. During this event a famous Surinamer is invited to reveal his or her favorite dish. The kitchen staff of Torarica selects a special menu based on these favorite dishes and presents them for everyone to taste on a particular evening. At that evening this famous person tells the audience why he/she chose these dishes and how they have to be prepared. The first Celebrity Chef took place on August 25, 2006 at 20:30 hrs at the Pier of Torarica. The famous Minister of Transport, Communication & Tourism, Ms. Alice Amafo, was our first guest. She chose 2 special Marron dishes with traditional meanings: “Podosiri with kwak” and “Afingi soup”. After she explained to the guests how and of what these items were made, she officially opened the buffet. Many guests tasted her favorite dish. Other items on the buffet were Kandra filet with Surinamese tomato sauce (Surinamese fish), stewed beef in Ketjap sauce, Pom, Moksi Alesi (fried rice) and lots more. The next Celebrity Chef will be in October 2006.
