The first Dutch continuing-education course for lung specialists
and general practitioners took place in in November 2004 in
hotel Torarica. In the Netherlands physicians must yearly follow
40 hours of continuing education in order to remain registered
as a doctor. From
November 10- 17, 2004 the lung doctors stayed in Eco Resort
Inn. The organizer of this accredited continuing-education
course was
“Stichting Voor Elck Wat Wils” under guidance of
dr. Stuart Wils. Besides the plenary readings and workshops that
were organized by renowned Dutch and Belgian speakers there was
also a social program with a visit to five different locations
in the interior. Straight after their return from the interior
the physicians paid a visit to the hospitals in Paramaribo. The large group of Dutch general practitioners
with spouse, in total 134 persons, stayed in hotel Torarica
from November 16 – 23, 2004.
In the following week the second group of general practitioners,
in total 142 persons, attended the accredited continuing-education
course. Initiator and organizer of this event was dr.
Bert Beenakker of Traveldoc. Does Travel & Cadushi Tours was
responsible for the entire organization of the trip to Suriname.
Beside the scientific program the physicians have also visited
our untouched interior. On December 9, 2004, 32 HIV-AIDS physicians
of the pharmaceutical company Abbott in the Netherlands arrived
for the second time in Suriname. They stayed in hotel Torarica
till December 16, 2004. Together with the “Stichting Postacademisch Geneeskunde
Suriname (SPAOGS)” they have organized a symposium in
the Royal Ballroom of hotel Torarica. They have also paid a
visit and organized a workshop in Nickerie. The locations they
visited in the interior were Dan Paati and Kumalu. Torarica thanks everyone who participated in these conventions
and is looking forward to see you all again!
